Re: Noise from exhaust

rattles from the bellhousing/clutch area are often the flywheel bolts coming loose. Worrying! How does that come about, poor rebuilds? Hopefully not from Cologne? No, as far as I understand they just vibrate loose after several years of use.. Usually a drop of loctite and re torquing does the job, ...

Re: Noise from exhaust

Hi guys, thought I would update you all. Had someone else look at the car and they said take the starter off and take another look. It would appear that the bendix doesn't return when it is pulled out and it's loose on the shaft which I suspect is causing the rattling. Could this be caused by a fail...

Restore-a-ford

Does anyone know what happened to Restore-a-ford?

Was quite impressed with their work and was going to get them to do a few bits on mine but I can't seem to find any information on them now.

Re: Noise from exhaust

Thanks for the reply guys. Had my MOT and the technician listened to it whilst it was in the air and it is definitely coming from the bellhousing. He pressed the clutch and it disappeared so he reckons it's the clutch release potentially not coming away enough when released so it's tapping on the cl...

Re: Damaged chrome

Thanks Andrew.

I think they are slightly different though. Looks like they have a step on the edge where as mine don't.

I was hoping to get the ones I have no repaired but I'm not sure how easy that will be!

Re: Noise from exhaust

Took the starter motor off this morning and cleaned all the connectors. Didn't dismantle the starter motor but the teeth appeared ok. Refitted and the car fired up pretty quick but the rattling noise is still there. The bong noise has gone though. Almost sounds like something small rattling and tick...

Re: Noise from exhaust

Thanks for your reply Mc Tool. I've had another listen and a feel whilst its running and it seems to becoming from the starter motor. Would make sense as I have had trouble with the starter motor recently where the car will make a conking noise but not start when turning the key. Should the starter ...

Noise from exhaust

The other issue I have had recently is a noise that I can only describe as a bong when the engine is idling and a tinny, rattling noise when the car is rev'd between approx. 2000 and 3000 revs. You can hear the bonging noise when you are away from the car quite clearly and is most prominent when you...

Damaged chrome

Hi guys, It's been a while since I have posted on here but apart from the odd niggle, my Capri is still going strong. I have two questions but will post the other in a separate post. The first problem is I recently had some tyres fitted and the fitter never took the Chrome rings that you find on the...

Thanks for the reply guys. I took some photos: https://i.imgur.com/SfUxdYe.jpg https://i.imgur.com/77uvIl9.jpg https://i.imgur.com/LUUX1bx.jpg https://i.imgur.com/X9Gk1Rs.jpg The springs seem in the same location as the grooves but are they set a bit too far back? With regards to the strut tops, in ...

Paul G, thanks mate. It would be greatly appreciated if you could bring the spring compressors to the next meet.

Clonk while turning wheel

Hey guys. Last few times I have taken the car I get a massive clonk from the front of the car whilst reversing with the car on full lock (wheels turned to right looking from drivers seat). The car almost lifts and drops as it is doing it. Have read about the coil coming out of its cup? Could it be t...

Re: Rubber washer between tail light lense and screw?

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your reply. So in effect there should be 3 washers then, two between backing plate and lense (The lights had two washers there when removed), and one between screw and lense?

Rubber washer between tail light lense and screw?

Hey guys, Just a quick one, replacing some bulbs in the rear lights and was wondering if there should be some sort of (rubber?) washer between the screw and the lense? I know there are meant to be washers between the lense and the backing plate but I'm not sure if there should be one between the scr...

A couple of bits

Hey guys, I'm after a couple of bits for my Capri, as seen in the pictures below. If anybody knows where I can get hold of some, preferably new, please let me know. I have tried doing a search but not sure of their actual names, so if anybody knows this that would be really helpful as well. https://...

Finally got round to gluing the clip back together today. Used araldite crystal. Seems pretty solid but haven't tried it on the car yet. Had to do the gap by eye :?

Thanks Paul.

I got it off last time by accidentally whacking it but don't want to risk that this time around haha.

Wiper stalk tab removal

Hey guys, trying to get the tab off the wiper stalk as the spring popped out a while ago and I want to put it back as it has been sitting on my shelf for ages. I've been able to pull to the 'arms' of the tab up but it still won't budge...is there a knack for removing it. I don't want to force it as ...
