Re: Auto box changing up too soon
Taken me far too long to get around to this, but I went out on a limb and got a new throttle cable from Rickover a couple of weeks ago and finally managed to fit it today.... Problem solved! Changing the cable was a lot less of a ball ache than I had expected it to be which I'm grateful for, managed...

Re: hardened valve seats
If the OP is dismantling the engine anyway, then surely fit the seats while it's apart. A word of warning: if you re-lap the valves in then you will wear away any build up of lead that 'may' have occurred anyway. I'd agree - if it's coming apart anyway then you may as well do it while it's apart......

Re: Noise from exhaust
I've had a similar problem in the past and it was as Hamish has suggested - the exhaust was hitting something on the underside of the car, and exactly like he has suggested, if you pry the exhaust away at various points with a piece of wood I found where it was touching and moved it. However, quite ...

Re: Sunroof grumbles (1986 2.8 Injection)
the metal goes from being thick and study to only a few mm thick You can fill that thin 'void' with chemical metal/filler, or similar to strengthen it. There is a tab on the other part which locates in that void but doesn't appear to do anything, so that could be ground/drilled off. The handle woul...

Re: Auto box changing up too soon
Unscrewed the yellow adjuster all the way out, still about an inch of play! Looks like a new cable will need fitting Not sure what could have happened to the existing cable to warrant a new one though? Are we sure it isn't something else that's happened here. Just don't want you to change the cable...

Looks like a new cable will need fitting - is that a massive ballache of a job or can I do it myself?

Re: Auto box changing up too soon
I did all of that apart from unscrewing the yellow adjuster - I didn't know you could do that!!
I just looked at it and went "that's the problem"
If it can be adjusted I will try that later and see if it can be fixed

Re: Auto box changing up too soon
Looks like Tom was right from the start!
Throttle cable very loose to the extent I can pull part of it out, and when I pull part of it out it brings the pedal back up to the correct level
Now just to spend forever trying to find one for "a reasonable price" !!!

Re: Windscreen size
The lady from the insurance company rang me a bit ago, just to make sure they can get the right tinted one. Told her it's bronze & luckily she can get one no problem. When I got mine done a couple of years ago they use Pilkingtons to supply the screen anyway and they're good quality so fingers ...

Re: Sunroof grumbles (1986 2.8 Injection)
But no, the switch flips smoothly. It's the handle/winder the I have to force? I would stop using he sunroof until the issue is fixed. The handles have been known to snap and a replacement could cost you an arm and a leg. As an indication, there's only one decent one on Ebay at the moment and it's ...
