Update: whilst the car now starts and seems to run marginally better, it still shifts far too quickly

Will check the vacuum box on the side of the box when I feel like getting lucky again!!

Correct points arrived in the post so one 10 minute job later new points are fitted, gapped correctly and timing set (again) for about the billionth time.

I have to go out in around an hour so will update afterwards if that solves the issue!

Someone once told me a trick of taking a bonnet cable and putting it up their sleeve so it ran across their shoulders from wrist to wrist underneath their jumper so it couldn't be seen on the way out

Ok so I'm clearly having a total rookie moment.... I adjusted the points the other day as it was running rough as arseholes and the gap had dwindled to basically nothing so set it back to .45mm. Car now runs healthier, but was revving all over the place so set timing again - line up 8 degrees, check...

I don't have a 2.8 so can't help on the hose, but just wanted to check about the O ring you mentioned - I've had to change mine recently and the thermostat came with a piece of rubber around the edge of it - if that is what you mean then you need to take that off before fitting in the car :) Cheers ...

If it helps Bug I had a big hesitation as well, set the points again and problem solved!
Only thing is that I also seem to have fiddled with the timing as the auto now changed up gears way too early and I can't seem to sort it again

Bite the bullet and get a new one - I got three quotes for a recore and two of them came in more than a new ally rad was, and the third was only £10 less

Four days later a shiny new ally rad arrived

I'd e hounding them for proof of postage and demanding compensation if they have gone walkies - somewhere to the tune of £120 for CCI replacements would be my suggestion if they have!!

It would be very annoying if they had just lost them

I hope they at least still have them to send back...?
If so, compensation can be them refunding you for the inconvenience of their ineptitude!
