Re: Auto box changing up too soon

I once had a C3 autobox that went absolutely nuts, changing up gears when not needed and all sorts of other nutty things, turns out the vacuum modulator on the side of the 'box had failed so this may be worth checking, there's a vacuum line from the box to the inlet manifold, pull it off at the man...

Re: Auto box changing up too soon

Update: whilst the car now starts and seems to run marginally better, it still shifts far too quickly

Will check the vacuum box on the side of the box when I feel like getting lucky again!!

Re: Auto box changing up too soon

Correct points arrived in the post so one 10 minute job later new points are fitted, gapped correctly and timing set (again) for about the billionth time.

I have to go out in around an hour so will update afterwards if that solves the issue!

Re: Who Remembers?

Someone once told me a trick of taking a bonnet cable and putting it up their sleeve so it ran across their shoulders from wrist to wrist underneath their jumper so it couldn't be seen on the way out

The one being towed...?
Looks like a '57 Chevvy Bel Air to me - but I stand to be corrected!

Re: Auto box changing up too soon

they said they will post me the correct one if I sent it back I assume they would refund the return postage costs Danny? Although some companies try to refuse, I think it's illegal not to. So would be interested to know their stance, as I don't like to use companies who do that. If something is not...

Re: Auto box changing up too soon

Yep those points look like they are for an Essex V6 Ford dizzy. CCI Strikes again :banghead: Yep - why ask for the model of the car when ordering just to put the wrong one in?? To be fair, I called, told them they had messed up and they said they will post me the correct one if I sent it back - luc...

Re: Auto box changing up too soon

I didn't change the points because these weren't that old and I figured I could just adjust them - for the sake of a fiver I will change them and see if it makes a difference The vacuum hose is definitely still attached, and I have only just now seen the cable from the carb to the gearbox - never ev...

Auto box changing up too soon

Ok so I'm clearly having a total rookie moment.... I adjusted the points the other day as it was running rough as arseholes and the gap had dwindled to basically nothing so set it back to .45mm. Car now runs healthier, but was revving all over the place so set timing again - line up 8 degrees, check...

Re: Thermostat replacement on a 2.8 injection

I don't have a 2.8 so can't help on the hose, but just wanted to check about the O ring you mentioned - I've had to change mine recently and the thermostat came with a piece of rubber around the edge of it - if that is what you mean then you need to take that off before fitting in the car :) Cheers ...

Re: Big hesitation.

If it helps Bug I had a big hesitation as well, set the points again and problem solved!
Only thing is that I also seem to have fiddled with the timing as the auto now changed up gears way too early and I can't seem to sort it again

Re: Cheapest Capri's On Sale.

I think it's just the luck of finding them cheap really - my laser was my first car 10years ago and my dad paid £1200 for it, the GL got pulled out of a barn and I paid £400 for it, and the S was £1000 because it had been stuffed into the Armco, but personally I'm quite happy to have three capris an...

Re: Tailgate Struts

The only good news is that eBay are usually pretty good with disputes - I got some wheel covers once (the same stuff Tom B has on his wheels, whatever the proper name is) and the seller guaranteed me that they would fit a Capri, they arrived and they were clearly for a fiesta as they weren't deep en...

Re: Radiator.

Bite the bullet and get a new one - I got three quotes for a recore and two of them came in more than a new ally rad was, and the third was only £10 less

Four days later a shiny new ally rad arrived

Re: SGS Engineering Re-gassing

I'd e hounding them for proof of postage and demanding compensation if they have gone walkies - somewhere to the tune of £120 for CCI replacements would be my suggestion if they have!!

It would be very annoying if they had just lost them

Re: SGS Engineering Re-gassing

I hope they at least still have them to send back...?
If so, compensation can be them refunding you for the inconvenience of their ineptitude!
