B reg was released August 84 and the Laser launched in June 84 so assume possible to have got one in those couple of months rather than wait?

Depending on what type of exhaust you have sportex have three options of back box, 2inch, 3inch and 3inch with no back box so it could be possible just to change that one end piece and make it quieter.
