Re: Prince Phillip R.I.P
:agree: It`s kind of hard to take in yet, he`s always been there, seemed like he always would be. Must be devastating for the Queen. Not a big fan of the royals generally, especially the younger parasitic brats, but I genuinely like the Queen, and Philip, TBH, didn`t really giva a s*** - which was q...

Re: Outer sill replacement
The lack of replies would suggest that this is very, very difficult to estimate. How far do you cut back to get good metal on the floor/inner sill? How much time do you spend fabricating repair patches for the same? Perhaps with pictures somebody may identify with it and have had similair work done?

Re: Doesn't everyone love a bargain !!!
Danny, Ha - I just get sooooo many I just can`t be arsed reading, or deleting, them  (They are sites I sometimes use so don`t want to block) Facebook, for example, every day sends me 5 new sites I`ll be `interested in` about crappy cars of the `70s & `80s. It`s overwhelming - and I never even u...

Re: Fan belts from Tickover
There`s something weird about this: the one fitted is (in theory) too big at 914mm, 50mm longer than the `correct` part. Although it would only be a 15mm increase in actual diameter. Very strange. Please don`t be offended but you have loosened fully so the alt will push right back, it`s not binding?...

Apologies to anybody who was expecting a sensible contribution to the discussion.

Re: Fan belts from Tickover
AFAIK all the Pintos had the same alternator, why wouldn`t they, electrically they`re identical. There were different makes fitted, depending on supply chain, but they would all have the same diameter pulley so they run at the same speed.

Re: Fan belts from Tickover
Correct. The 2.0 block`s a couple of mm taller but doesn`t affect the alternator/water pump.Andrew 2.8i wrote: ↑Sun Apr 04, 2021 5:06 pmSame engine though, isn't it? I'm no expert but I would wager that both the 1.6 and 2.0 pinto engines use the same size belts.

Maybe try Martin, Caprigear? Tel: +44 (0)1507 343148 (workshop)) I`d imagine shipping will be biggest expense?

There must be something wrong if you need to take the alternator off to change the belt, surely, I never have?

Re: Knocking noise
The synchro though wouldn`t really explain the violent surging as you just described it `dumping the clutch`, that`s much more like a clutch, or even engine/gearbox mount - which I guess could also make noise? Or as Martin said a fuelling issue? The rubber mounting for the propshaft centre joint wou...

Re: Knocking noise
Scott, I`ve never had this in a Ford `box, cos they`re quite rugged, but I did in an old Vauxhall RWD: the hub is splined onto the mainshaft and they would crack around the `webbing`. https://i.postimg.cc/prcv9vYx/DSC02778.jpg The inner part is the mainshaft, the outer ring slides for and aft to eng...

Re: Knocking noise
Hopefully it will be `just` a clutch problem, maybe broken springs in the driven plate, although I`d have thought that would be in all gears. When you try to select 1, 2 or reverse, does the gear lever feel stiffer or different than it used to? 1,2 and R are the same synchrohub which, if that was br...
