Re: Whining sort of noise....?

I always thought that noisy wheel bearings sounded like more of a drone than a whine.

Yes I agree with that. It's a bit like artificial lawn, enhanced breasts, vegetarian sausage. It's not real. Fake news to coin a modern term.

Nice spot though Nick, I'd have taken a pic too, and I do like Beetles.

Re: Electric fuel pump

It's difficult to explain why things behave a certain way due to faults, just look at electrical gremlins, can be a nightmare. Could be that when the system is dry, carb, hoses and pump all dry, that the pump is failing under the extra strain as it is past its best but can still perform under easier...

Re: Electric fuel pump

Hi Wayne, probably best to try another fuel pump, it is possible that yours is under performing and/or faulty. Either way it definitely needs ruling out.

Re: Electric fuel pump

Wayne, it is easy to understand, when used frequently the fuel remains in the carb, it doesn't have time to evaporate. But, when left it does evaporate, and when this happens the fuel pump needs to replenish the carb with fuel when cranking. But that process is failing on your car. Try the experimen...

Re: Electric fuel pump

Thanks for your reply Wayne. My carb will be empty also after 2 or 3 weeks or so, that's quite normal, it evaporates. However, after a few seconds of cranking the fuel makes its way to the carb (can be seen in the inline filter as you mention) and the car will start. Takes a little longer as I've sa...

Re: Electric fuel pump

The car of mine that has this issue would quite happily drain and flatten battery after battery if I let it That is a definite problem your car has, obviously. It should only take a few seconds of cranking for the fuel to be delivered and the car to spring into action. After you have done a ton of ...

Re: Electric fuel pump

Everytime it happens the carb is bone dry - no petrol what so ever in the carb That's quite normal if the car hasn't been driven for a while, mine's the same, everyone's will be. But, my car can still start first time (with choke flaps closed), albeit a little longer with the cranking as the fuel i...

Re: Electric fuel pump

Just have a read of my post again Wayne if you have time, it isn't a problem, that's what I was saying. And that maybe the cars which won't start have something else which isn't helping the issue?

Re: Electric fuel pump

Are you guys sure that something else isn't wrong here. I mean, I drive my car frequently all year round, but there can be periods of a few weeks when I haven't, but even then it can start first time (assuming the choke flaps are closed), and yes it can take a little longer to start as the fuel trav...

Re: Brake caliper.

No one has yet pointed out that once one piston has popped out you will need to refit it and clamp it in place to get the other one out. I used that method last time, although previously I have popped one piston out then put my thumb over the hole to pop the other out. Plenty of rags in there to tr...

Re: Brake caliper.

My front caliper is sticking on slightly, there is a slight noise which goes off after about five miles if I don't touch the brakes. I've had this too. Defintely take the calipers off and pop the pistons out, as Peter suggests, clean them all up and grease them up using the correct grease, makes a w...

Re: Seen everything now

When channel 4 first come out ( can’t remeber date ) but late 80s when they had a over 18 film on you would get a triangle in the top right of the screen . Does anybody remember that ? Yes, I recall the warning triangle Jason. Can't remember the film I watched once, but it had a chicken being slaug...
