:agree: Paul.
It's probably because your average person doesn't think or consider their actions.
Fellow club members and other classic car owners would do the same though. I have a lot of respect for other people's cars and would never even consider doing that.

Re: Drum brake cylinders and handbrake cable

As the pistons go in, the shoes go in with it. So, wonder what is stopping that from happening then?

The Car Years, Tuesday on ITV4 at 8.00 and 8.30 https://classicsworld.co.uk/news/the-car-years-on-itv4/
Hate it when people sit or lean on cars! For some reason mine always seemed to attract that at shows, was forever shouting at people to stop it, used to think it was because it's red.

Re: Drum brake cylinders and handbrake cable

Yes it doesn't seem like a school boy error. Not like when I just couldn't get my drums off, with the handbrake on :)

We all really need to know just what it is that's not right though! Can't help thinking that the cylinder pistons should be further in though.

shows up the dust more than any other colour.
Small dents too, they really catch the light on a black car. It is a great Capri colour though.

I'm interested to know Peter, what product(s) and method you used for that.

Re: Drum brake cylinders and handbrake cable

When it's all correct, they do slip on very easily, it's not like it's only just, so something just isn't right, obviously. Sorry for the lack of words of wisdom!

Thanks Andy :) It's great to know that it's a good product, and equal to the other brands as you have mentioned previously.

Re: Drum brake cylinders and handbrake cable

That's a good point by Tom actually, if the handbrake cable is too tight it will almost be like the handbrake is on while you are trying to put the drums back on.

Re: Who Remembers?

We never had one of those, but yes all the mod cons now make life a lot easier, but are we better off for it? In some instances certainly so but we are inundated now with products marketed in such a way that we feel we should have them, but don't really need them. I'm close to taking a step back fro...

Re: Waterless Wash & Wax Products

Excellent, hope you like it Andy :) Would be interested to see your review. Just gave the Focus a clean with this, and it's equally as good as the other 2 sprays I use. Smells nice too :D I would happily use this on the Capri as and when I need to. At this price it's worth buying a few eveytime the...

Cycled over to my local Aldi last night and they had it so grabbed a couple of bottles. No micro fibre clothes at home so that's next on the list

Previously you got a micro fibre cloth with it, cutbacks I guess!

Re: Drum brake cylinders and handbrake cable

Are you sure the brake cylinder isn't seized, as Peter mentioned, Danny? I don't think the shoes will fit whilst it is extended at one side like that, your aim is to have the piston 'closed'.

Good idea :) Would be interested to know if the fit when it all goes back together is ok, with the slightly increased size.

However if it is worse than before then give it a full 360 degree turn in the opposite direction.
There are marks on the housing which indicate lining the choke up to either stay on longer on go off quicker, but these changes are only a couple of mm. Not sure what you mean by a full turn?

Removed the flaps as suggested, is there a different way that I need to start it when cold.
You have actually taken off the choke flaps? Goodness me, bit drastic. Did you look at the carb mixture to see if it was too lean? Just curious to know.

Re: Aldi Waterless Wash

Got a couple of these yesterday, they had a lot in so hopefully the stores won't run out too quickly. Also got an exterior trim cleaner/restorer and an interior trim one, just £2.49 each. I'm not big on car care/cleaning products, amazes me that people turn up at shows with a boot full having spent ...

'A welder will put right in a few hours'. Hmmm, would take a lot longer in my opinion. Cutting out rot and creating pieces to add in does take some time.
