Re: Overheating or not? I can't tell.

That's odd? Cos too much coolant would have overflowed from the de-gassing tank as soon as it got up to temp. I suspect its more likely you did have an airlock and draining some out has helped to shift it. Anyway, no matter, cos now its running ok. Thanks for completing this thread too. So many peo...

Re: Overheating or not? I can't tell.

Its ok I've sorted it, I put too much coolant in it, drained a little out now temps are absaloute perfect! She sits just below half and in traffic sits bang on half.

Re: Overheating or not? I can't tell.

What exactly do you mean? Is the gauge reading at all? Do you have the correct sender (white collar)? Are you sure there's no air locks? Have you tried running it stationary and watching the gauge? Without air flow the temp should rise a bit further, then drop back as the thermostat opens. The bloc...

Re: Overheating or not? I can't tell.

Ok guys got the rad back. I flushed the system, hooked it all up, threw some coolant in it squeezed the pipes to rid of air then took it for a drive and... It's now over cooling! It can't be the thermostat stuck open, it's only just been replaced and I can't be that unlucky. What's going on? :...

Re: Overheating or not? I can't tell.

Bit of a bump up, but I took the radiator down to the Radiator Specialists and it was very badly blocked (water was seeping out instead of gushing on the float test), it is need of a new Recore at a princely sum of £150. It'll be done hopefully by Friday and I'll bump this once more to tell if it wo...

Getting my Capri on....

Brought it from the UK to the Isle of Man on a 230 odd mile journey and it was the most fun I could of had without stripping naked, stripped me of £80 in fuel though! God I love Cappa's. Well after a quick sprinkle and a polish then parking it the wrong way on the drive I took some photos: http://i1...

Re: Overheating or not? I can't tell.

If a rad is clogged up badly then a flush won't shift it. The water will take the path of least resistance through the unblocked bits. You'll probably find if you feel the rad that one section is still stone cold. That's where it's blocked. Get it recored and I reckon you'll be fine. Perfect, I'll ...

Re: Overheating or not? I can't tell.

Almost all overheating problems with the 2.8i are down to clogged radiator or poor circulation yet the answer is always to bung on an electric fan! Get the basics sorted and you won't need to go down that route - cure the problem not the symptoms, it's not difficult. Yeah I am starting to think it ...

Re: Overheating or not? I can't tell.

Wouldn't have thought its the sensor. Have you ever flushed the radiator? I had a pinto capri which did the same and it turned out the rad was crap plastic one, swapped for a metal one and sorted. Not seen a plastic one on the 2.8i, so i would start with a rad and cooling system flush then refil wi...

Overheating or not? I can't tell.

The car is a Ford Capri 2.8i. Ok driving along and I notice the gauge making its way to the red, although very slowly. Takes 10 minutes driving to get it to halfway and another 5 mins or so to see it go up towards the red before I shut her off. There is no drop in proformance, no smell and no leaks/...

Ford Capri MK3 2.0 litre Laser - Wanted

I am looking (very hard) for a Ford Capri MK3 2.0 Litre with tax and MOT anywhere in the UK or Ireland. Does not have to have a long MOT or Tax. My max budget is £2000 and if your interested I have a 1990 BMW E30 318i Touring 93,000 miles with a TON of bits and bobs including a un-cracked dash that ...
