Re: Mk3 GL Radio Query
I'm having a re-trim at the moment and am also pondering speaker placement - I have a set of Mk2 Ghia kick panels which have carpeting on them, same shape and fitting as the standard plastic kick panels except that the lower bit is entirely carpet with no plastic behind it. I'm wondering if I could ...

Re: Mk3 GL Radio Query
Hi Danny, Sorry fella, I was wrong!!! The 1982 / 1983 GL came with a P32 Radio, MW/LW/VHF!!!! So this migh t have had front door speakers??? It is very hard to tell from the Magazine, but with VHF, whats the point if you only have the 1 Speaker??? I might be wrong, but I believe these radios were s...

Re: HOW TO: Electronic Ignition in your Capri (Pinto)
Cheers for sorting the pics Joshy, very helpful. No sign of a spare 12v connector on my headlight relay so looks like I'll be running mine off Fuse 5. Found a good You Tube vid for setting ignition timing afterwards, features a nice Mk3 with twin webers. Very easy to follow, feel like I'm ready to h...

Re: HOW TO: Electronic Ignition in your Capri (Pinto)
Resurrecting this thread as I've just purchased a full Powerspark dizzy with Lucas sports coil, which I'll hopefully be attempting to install on Monday - with a little help from a more learned friend who runs the same set-up in his Mk3 S (and whose spare standard dizzy is currently in my car after m...

Re: Wanted: chrome vinyl roof rails...
Interesting Martin, maybe my car didn't have the rivetted end sections then? Annoyingly, the only other Mk2 in our club DOES have them - and looks much smarter as a result.

Wanted: chrome vinyl roof rails...
... for my MK2. Mine appears to be missing the rounded end sections that sit between the inside bottom corner of the vinyl and the rear side windows - the ones on it look more like the shorter ones used on non vinyl roof cars and they keep catching my eye every time I look in the side mirrors! You c...

Re: Oil pressure light coming on during idle
Nice! Quick rinse with thinners would help the spray bar. You still doing Noise annoys? Good stuff, another job to add to the list. Should probably replace the cam cover gasket too while I'm at it, I gather a rubber replacement is the way to go these days? Still doing the column - ain't been the sa...

Re: Oil pressure light coming on during idle
Thanks all - quick oil change this afternoon for some 20/50 and another new filter has solved the problem. Sender must be fine, now have a spare on hand just in case though. Will check the spray bar next time, is it worth removing it for a quick clean even if all seems well? Belfast is baking hot to...

Re: Oil pressure light coming on during idle
Hi Martin, interesting - I thought 10w40 was the norm and that 20w50 is best for pintos with super-high mileage?Caprigear wrote:For a start you don't want to use that oil in that engine. Ditch it and put in a good quality 20/50 grade of oil, change the oil filter while you're at it.

Re: Oil pressure light coming on during idle
Hi, oil level appears fine - it's 10w40 mineral. Was the first time I've changed it since getting the car last year so no idea what was in it before. Engine only has about 50-60k on it, seemed to run smoother following change too In fact, first time I can remember the light flickering on was just pr...

Oil pressure light coming on during idle
How worried should I be about this? Lamp occasionally started flickering on while idling at traffic lights a couple of weeks ago, goes out straight away when you blip the throttle and would stay off during normal driving. However, it's coming on and staying on at idle all the time now. Still goes ou...

Re: Noise Suppressors/radio interference
I actually quite fancy fitting an electric aerial anyway, anyone here done that? I imagine it's a pita given the lack of access to the inner wing. The lasers were all fitted with electric aerials as standard, they are pretty damn cool (well I thought so anyway!) - have a word with Martin at Caprige...

Re: Noise Suppressors/radio interference
AM or medium/long wave will pick up noise from the ignition system through the aerial, as a RF interference; this won`t be affected by suppressing the alternator etc as that`s a different, lower frequency noise. Adding more suppressors will not do any harm, but you need to know what kind of noise y...

Re: Noise Suppressors/radio interference
Resurrecting this thread to ask if anyone has one of these fitted, where it's installed and if it cured buzzy interference on their Medium Wave /AM radio reception?

Re: So my new 70s style plates arrived today...
Just found this seller on ebay, he sells several different styles of white/yellow mid to late 70s metal plates. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251543589475 Looks like my original front was made by Bestplate, with the fatter O and less curvy 6. The rest of the digits look identical to those on my new plat...

Re: So my new 70s style plates arrived today...
Cheers, been looking at other mk2s on the web and have seen plenty of other examples like that too - guess the car's original plates must have been a slightly unusual font for the period. Oh well, only I'll know that I suppose! More annoyingly, I'd ordered a black bordered rear plate to match the ma...

Re: So my new 70s style plates arrived today...
These folks in Brum also seem to be using the same digits for zeros and the letter O. http://www.numberplatecentre.com/products-numberp.html#!/classic/plastic-raised-digits-1970s-37.html Anyone got pics of their car with original late 70s plates on? I used Frampton's for my new set - must say they a...

Also, is that an upside-down '9' instead of a '6'??!
Were there slightly different fonts for these plates? Here's the old metal front for comparison.

Unfortunately, it looks to me like they have used a zero instead of the letter 'O' for the prefix.
