Re: The beauty of Vinyl...
You probably already know this Paul, but Cass Elliot, Mama Cass of the Mamas & the Papas... well I wouldn`t want to sleep in that room! Elliot retired to an apartment in Mayfair at Flat 12, 9 Curzon Place (later Curzon Square), Shepherd Market, Mayfair, London, owned by singer-songwriter Harry N...

Re: The beauty of Vinyl...
It is a brilliant album. I got that too, about 45 years ago, what a fabulous package that is though (the original studio album) Beautifully produced book, pictures, probably the most lavish double album I own. I got the CD too and was gutted as they`d remixed 5:15 - and put all John Entwistles horns...

Re: Jobs on a car that were easier than expected and jobs that were harder than expected
Same with some Porsches, no access to where the battery or even the car with a flat battery, Porsche's recommendation is to smash the window so you can get access to the Fuse box and supply power to that so you can open the boot to get to the battery. I`m so glad you put that, I was worrying that i...

Re: propshaft length.
I do know the 2.8 had a CV joint in the middle whereas the 4cyl cars just have a UJ. Could that account for the didfference? The gearbox and the diff. flanges are the same I`m sure so it must BE the prop? I have a spare 4 cyl shaft I can measure up if that`s any use, which points do you want measuri...

Re: Jobs on a car that were easier than expected and jobs that were harder than expected
A guy across the road has an Audi A4 (I think?) whatever, his battery went flat overnight. Unfortunately the battery is in the boot, - and the boot is electrically operated. Poor guy spent a morning like a contortionist removing rear seats etc to try and get access to the battery. (I think it may ha...

Re: Jobs on a car that were easier than expected and jobs that were harder than expected
It`s ironic because all this complexity is so that you can just press a button rather than having the onerous task of pulling a lever. See - it`s making life easier....

No, I didn`t explain properly, I have a switch so I can also turn the fan on manually, and a bulb so I can tell when it`s running. Obviously, not being an LED it will light up whichevrr way the current flows and at speed the airflow will spin the fan. Q.E.D.

Re: Fitting kenlowe electric fan in 2.8i
One final thing, the fan isn`t running when you turn the engine off is it? Only because, if it`s still spinning when you stop the engine it WILL generate a voltage, which may be enough to keep ECU live for a second or two. A bit desperate but you never know? A diode will cure this. I have a light in...

Re: Fitting kenlowe electric fan in 2.8i
if I can fit 2x 10A in parallel (I.e. split the live feed into two to go into the 2x 10A diodes at once) and back out as one feed into the fan? Yes, you can, absolutely (in fact the 30A ones on Amazon that I linked to are just that. The 3 lead out TO220 package are designed as a 2 diode 1/2 wave re...

Re: Fitting kenlowe electric fan in 2.8i
Yes, you`re right, it`s just a one way valve in essence. Although as it seems some unknown forces are at play, I`d fit as close to the source/fusebox as possible.

Re: Fitting kenlowe electric fan in 2.8i
Yes you`re right it IS purely pragmatic - but can you think of any way this can actually happen, current feeding back from an earthed fan motor, no other connection, to keep the engine running. for a `timed` period too ~It`s not really possible. So given that - I`d stick a diode in it! ;) The only e...

Re: Fitting kenlowe electric fan in 2.8i
Should the fuse be in the wire between thermostat and fan? Y but fuse 6 also feeds the wipers which can also draw quite a high current. Have you checked that the fuse is up to the job with both the fan and wipers on? Andrew. I missed that - very good point - if F6 is 16A and the fan is 20A there`s ...

Re: Fitting kenlowe electric fan in 2.8i
I think some wiring to an existing component could have been disturbed during the installation process. If it`s a BOB, and continues running for 5 sec after switch off, that sounds to me more like a computer / engine management issue. As you suggest, something maybe affected by the installation, ea...

Re: Fitting kenlowe electric fan in 2.8i
Yes, you want it as near to the fusebox as possible so it protects the maximum amount of circuitry, all of which is a potential overload.Andrew 2.8i wrote: ↑Fri Mar 22, 2024 7:31 am
Fitting the fuse in the supply to the relay is correct.
