Re: Wiring diagram, rear wiper

Yes, you`re quite right... I was just trying to clarify that the the switched power (when switch is `on`) comes through the little pad on the tailgate, the constant supply comes through the strut (Obviously the constant power is what returns the motor to park) It was late, I worded it badly.... shou...

Re: Wiring diagram, rear wiper

Hi guys I am looking for a wiring diagram which shows how the rear wiper is wired up. More importantly how the park function works. Thanks FYI the motor has a circular track & brushes which rotate with the shaft, through which it`s powered. One tiny part of the track (call it the `START`) is co...

Really sad news Nick. I know he`d been in and out of hospital with some viral thing (encephalitis???) but last I heard he was out of hospital . Tragic - another iconic figure gone.

you may or may not be thinking was it all worth it, Financially, no, it`s never going to be `worth it`, but money isn`t everything: nobody who has any fondness for these cars willl have anything but admiration for what you`ve done! It`s a fantastic job, the car will now go off into the future and b...

Re: Hammerite products

Yes, just looked there myself.... they also no longer list Waxoyl in any form, though this may be just that Halfords get more mark-up on their own branded paints? It seems it MAY have been discontinued in North America (California air?) as all the info I found was 2019/20 and seemed to be from US. H...

Re: Hammerite products

What - you mean they`ve ceased trading kind of discontinued??? That`s a bit of a blow, they`ve been my `go-to` brand for paints since I was a kid! Edit: yes I`ve just seen that on internet citing environmental compliance issues, yet the website is still offering everything as normal. WTF as they say?

I fitted one of these https://spiyda.com/instrument-voltage-s ... r-kit.html, I even fitted it inside the existing case. It works well. If you can solder, the actual regulator in above kit is only a quid or so, https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/386163774034?hash=item59e9279252:g:MMQAAOSwqZJlGvWC&amdat...

Izal, the very definition of `unfit for purpose`. How did they ever get away with selling that stuff???

Re: Can't get a spark from the coil

At a guess I`d say the difference will bw down to the pickup: one will be optical, the other a hall effect device? An optical will obviously activate as soon as light level changes whereas the hall effect, being magnetic, will require a certain rate of flux which is directly proportional to speed (h...

Re: Can't get a spark from the coil

Danny, if he`d taken it literally straight from the battery, I`m pretty sure it won`t turn off with the key?, he`d need to physically disconnect it to stop the engine? Must mean a switched (12v) supply?

Re: Rear axle noise?

Obviously you may be able to feel roughness or play in the bearing. Trouble is you can`t `spin` the wheels like the front as they`re dragging the diff assembly too - which also makes its own noise.

Re: Rear axle noise?

Scraping is odd.... are you absolutely sure there`s nothing getting too close to the whheels or propshaft? Usual cries of distress are hums or whines. If the axle`s full of oil there`s really not much else you can do... I wouldn`t bother with additives.

Re: Rear axle noise?

Wheel bearing noise will become more pronounced on bends or roundabouts when the weight of the car is thrown more onto the relevant bearing. (so if you go round a bend to the left and the hum increases, the right hand bearing is worn) Does the noise get worse when you go on/off the gas? It `sounds` ...

if you mean the inner bush where the track control arm pivots, that should be 42.22 mm (odd number as it`s imperial? )

Re: ARB Bushes

I can't imagine that replacement heavy duty washers could be much thicker than that, can they No, it was only an afterthought, because OP mentioned them. Very unlikely, but I suppose if they were a couple of mm thicker, x2, AND the tube was a couple of mm longer...? But, yes, my money`s on the tube!

Re: ARB Bushes

Hmm, so we've established that your steel inner tube is the correct size. Or have we? I'm going to take it off to see what length the tube actually is. It may yet be that the tube is simply a couple of mm too long? Hopefully, in which case grinding it down should solve the problem. (the washers DO ...

Re: ARB Bushes

The original tubes/spacers are 30.5mm long if that helps? (I`m thinking that, regardless of which `bushes` are fitted, the steel tube & washers need to be the correct dimensions for the nut to end up on the threaded section of the ARB. The bush will simply `squash` into place.)
