Re: RE: carb advice
Agreed. That manifold looks homemade or sumthing, definately not a ford one. Also the throttle linkage looks different.

Re: diesel car recomendations
i bee thinking of a 306 actually. i presume you had a td rather than a hdi? in standard tune, are the td's good load draggers? Mine was the hatchback TD version, and I never had to tow anything with it. Certainly had lots of grunt even with 5 people and kit tho! My mate had the non turbocharged eng...

Re: diesel car recomendations
I've owned two diesel cars, one Peugeot 306 turbo diesel and my current car a Focus tdci. Both cars I'd recommend. The Pug was a very solid engine, >100k is nothing to them, quite powerful and very economical. And pretty simple to work on. I'm sure you could pick up quite a cheap estate version no p...

Not too bad two areas at the top and bottom of the a-post need new metal, floor pan looks ok. headlight bowl needs sum attention. Any hints or tips ...

Re: Wing Air Vent
Or just: I've got a Capri, so fuck you. Short ... simple ... to the point. (a bit like a blunt, retarded midget ) Damn midgets. Rite just had a session with the angle grinder and havent lost any limbs yet. Hit a problem, the rear of the wing seems to be held on solid by invisible welds!! I've...

Re: Wing Air Vent
Haaa your banner Burgh89 completely contadicts this! Who cares about rust when youve got RWD....you clearly!! Ha very true! I made that banner last year in my early days of Capri ownership, when I wud take a 10 mile detour just to go round a roundabout. Now unfortunately I have become attached to m...

Re: New capri owner need additives in fuel?
I wouldn't worry about it too much to be honest. I used to run bog standard unleaded without too many problems, I fill up when I can with the super unleaded now, which I thnk makes the engine run better. Everyone goes on about valve seat recession etc etc but just run it until it breaks, which will ...

Re: i'm going to be slaughtered for this but throttle sticking
Not entirely sure but think this is caused by your autochoke mechanism. When I removed mine completely the revs used to hold at about 2000 rpm as the engine heated up. Figured out I had forgotten to remove a linkage on the carb that seemed to stop the throttle from being fully released. Give the lin...

Re: the chuckle brothers are mechanics
Mickey when I first got my car it was pissing fumes out the downpipe, used to get headaches if I drove it too long. Probably not the best idea and lost a few brain cells but I still drove it!! My advice is if you can't smell any exhaust in the cockpit and you ain't gettin dizzy/headaches its fine!! ...

Wanted: MK3 head light back plate
Hi all looking for a pair of the head light back plates in reasonable condition. Not the plastic covers but the thing that they screw into. Mine are badly corroded.

Re: I know its only 1.6 ,,, but can I make it faster
First thing I'd do is bin the standard carb and whack on one from the 2 litre. Gives it a bit more oomph and is bolt on job. I fitted a 4 Branch sports manifold to a standard exhaust system and tbh doesn't do much really. I'd invest in an entire exhaust system but don't know enuf about it to advise....

Re: Working on a pinto - upgrades
Definately worth it. |Just bolts on no need to re-jet. Certainly gives it more oomph when you floor it. Actually felt I could overtake people when i fitted mine! I bought secondhand, 20 quid refurb kit. Good as new!

Re: Wing Air Vent
Genuine wings have a row of raised 'pimples' along the inner edge (drip rail) about 2" apart. You should se them easily with the bonnet open. Yeh have got these all the way along so definately genny wings. Am definately goin to take them off tho. Theres too many rusty patches underneath that I...

Re: Wing Air Vent
Have had a good look under the wing and things dont look too good. Definite rust patches on the A-post and near the floor. My strut tops have also been repaired badly so I would like to sort them out aswell, so i thnk the wing will have to come off regardless. It'd got the ridges near the headlights...

Wing Air Vent
Made myself a cool wing vent today! 8-) Mainly for cosmetic reasons and the added bonus that my electric aerial is now air-cooled. http://i675.photobucket.com/albums/vv120/burgh89/DSCN2402.jpg On a serious note tho I'm pretty sure this wing ain't repairable? A crappy filler bodge had caused this. So...

Re: now she's running i have some better questions, pinking!
As Beakster says pinking only happens under load and isn't really a ticking noise. More of a sort of metallic rattling noise, like a metal pin ball is pinging around the inside of the engine. Find your nearest hill and put your foot down in 4th/5th gear, you shoud hear it then. Trial and error at th...

Re: Two Big Problems
U still running points? My engine slowly losing power is what happened to mine when the points closed up. Would also explaiin the timing changing, which causes that pinking noise. An easy fix so look there first!

Re: Front spring sheared!
Loosen the top centre nut a turn or two first. it's easier to do than when it's on the bench. Unbolt the calipers, loosen the lock nut on the leg und of the flexi hose and hang the caliper up out of the way. Saves bleeding the brakes. Disconnect the Track Rod End and the outer TCA joint from the le...

You've got the winter TLC you were looking for! LOL! Yeh I know! My car just senses when I fancy getting my hands dirty, so sumthing breaks! Think I've got it sorted in my head now. Will be fitting new tca, tie rod ends, and ARB bushes cos they all look original and fooked! So shud keep me busy for...
