Re: Started repair of my 2.8i after volvo smashed my back en

Re: Lumpy and sleepy

Ok thats it! it runs like a dream again but I had to find a replacement vv carb because I'm a student so £30 quid vs £100 = no brainer but the guy sold me two new diaphragms as well so this will be a tempory measure until i save the money for a new and better carb but thanks for the advice, apprecia...

Re: Lumpy and sleepy

Seeing as its a 1.6, have you changed the diaphram in the vv carb?, if i recall these always split. they were not the best carbs in the world, ok when brand new, useless when old. Try to get a complete weber and manifold from a 2.0 and swap everything over, really easy. Stick on a k & n filter ...

Re: Lumpy and sleepy

Petrol smell indicates a miss-fire or too rich mixture. Check the points / condenser - just renew them if in doubt, get the ignition timing checked with a strobe light then have a mechy check the emissions with a gas analyser and adjust if needed. Next on thelist is to check valve clearances and ad...

Lumpy and sleepy

I just changed the ht leads and i know they are on right and the reason i changed them was because the engine wasn't running at all well, cutting at traffic lights after a minute or so of sounding like it was giving up the ghost so i'm going to check the spark plugs themselves to see what condition ...

Re: why did nobody tell me that driving hurts?

I learnt in a 2010 polo diesal and i remember the amount of times i would pull up at my grans, take the capri out and follow her up the lane until my instructor left, then coming back again coz i had always fettled with something before she picked me up for a lesson, drove her mad to see me drive be...

Re: Young person insurance...

top tip, instead of waiting for your first year of driving to be over before you renew your insurance, wait until your next birthday. that way you'll be 18 and insurance will come down as a result, wot i'm doing is paying roughly 9 months insurance that runs out the day after my birthday, then getti...

Re: MOT Passed! (even though it should have failed)

congrats on beating the testers. i myself just got my capri on the road after a dodgey track rod end moment, generatated a re-test. so thankfully i have a years test from the 14/09/11. so i'll keep me eye out for your motor. I'll give you a toot of the horn, and flash of the lights if you out and a...

Re: MOT Passed! (even though it should have failed)

Congrats m8! When mine passed a few weeks back the tester let the ramp down, got in and horsed it round the car park full tilt!! He did let me off with the lowered back end hitting the bump stops and running a tad rich so fair enough If you went to the balmoral centre then i'm guessing you got the ...

MOT Passed! (even though it should have failed)

I'll explain what I mean. Took the car down to the MOT centre, first time I drove it on the roads but what don't seem like problems quickly did turn into problems. I fitted new brakes 1 week ago so they haven't bedded in yet and need that final adjustment to make them better than poor :D But we expl...

list of possible engines.....

I've been thinking, instead of the old rover v8 that hasn't got that much power, why not try something differant like an alfa v6, 3 litre v8 from a ferrari (if you can afford to) these would be my favourite to get hold of but could it be done?

Re: New clutch, new problems

So, it was running ok then you changed the clutch. Now it smells hot. Why on earth would it suddenly be the head gasket gone? Surely more likely to be the component you just changed. Don't grasp at random straws, attack it slowly and logically! Think twice before you act once! Firstly, check the cl...
