Re: Strut steering arm

Those steering arms bolts go right through and hold that flimsy dust plate behind the discs in place. If this has rotted out behind the bolt head it could give you some play. I don't see how it could be anything else if you torqued them and put a pin through.

Re: will 2.8 front discs fit on a 2 litre?

Yep. As Peter says, caliper spacer kit from Rally Design or Burtons will let you get the wider discs in. You'll also have to remove the metal dust plates on the back, which can be slightly awkward being as they're bolted through part of the steering assembly. The solid discs are mainly fine on the r...

Re: Valve clearances..

Improvisation Dave!

Someone told me the other day that Meccano deliberately made mistakes in the instructions, and gave kids extra pieces in the kits, just to force them to think outside of the box.

Come to think of it.. I never really was that good at Meccano!

Re: Why Not Come to the CRaP Weekend?

Nothing to do with venue, price, or company. The show is fantastic. I can testify to this. Last 3 years it's just clashed with a stag do and Spain hols. Sorry Dave! Will try make next year.

Re: Carb help!!

Pump diaphragm thing could be split. This may cause your stumble when you boot it. 4 small screws in a square on the side of the carb will get you to it. Sorry I can't be more specific. Then 2nd what steve says, jets/tubes out and give them a good clean.

Re: Running Rich

Well unless you want to get out at 60mph and smell the exhaust pipe, that doesn't rule anything out. Warm it up, put some new plugs in, or at least clean yours, then try the above. There's a real art to tuning a carb to an engine, a lot more than twiddling a mixture screw. Hence why I leave it to th...

Re: Running Rich

It really depends where in the rev range you are rich, adjusting the mixture screw only sets your mixture at idle/low rpm. It you're rich mid/up top you need to fiddle with jets etc, which in my opinion, is one for the rolling road. If you want to do a quick test, go somewhere quiet and drive it at ...

Re: May just have found reason for bad idling and running rich

2nd what Steve just said. The marks are never spot on in my experience, but they don't have to be. If you're a tooth out it'd be waaaaay out. If you had a vernier cam sprocket you could fine tune the cam timing, but you wouldn't be using the punch mark as a reference anyway. It's just a 'rough' guide.

If you've got the type 3 gearbox, which I'm 90% certain you do, you want the clutch with a 20 spline centre.

Re: Repairing pin holes in diff cover

Chemical metal, JB weld and the like will sort it if the rest of the cover's not in bad shape. It happened on mine over a year ago, but I have the English axle where you can't replace the cover. Not had any probs since smearing on some JB weld.

Ayr not bad not bad cheers dude. Car went through the MOT last week so pretty chuffed. It's driving superbly at the minute, it's great fun. Still looks like a shed though. I'm holding out for you to perfect your skills, then I'll ship it over to you for a refurb :) ha ha.

Re: Seeping Water Pump

Hey Steve, just a quick check incase you haven't already.. I had a similar problem last year. What I eventually realised was, that as I'd been mucking around with ancillaries, I'd moved the alternator bracket a few times and this had loosened the bolt holding the water pump. It leaked just as you de...

Re: Canada MKI Capri- restotime

Coming together brilliant, and at a rapid pace too. Shame about the front wings, they're a disgrace, they're not even remotely close.

Mechanical side off to a good start, you'll be able to throw plenty of torques at that beast of a rear end.

Re: 32/36 carb to 38 gas

As far as twin choke carbs go I think the 32/36 suits the pinto better than the 38 dgas. It's only my personal opinion, but I liked the progressive-ness of the 32/36. Depends on your tune really, but a standard or mild tuned pinto I'd go with the 32/36 no question.

Interesting.. that's probably my video you've seen Rosco. I've always used one where the spray bar meets the central cam pillar. Probably because the first one I ever took off had one. Obviously not necessary. Ignore me!
