Building a Brooklands replica?
Has anyone ever done this? Yes it wont be a genuine Brooklands but as I want a left hooker I couldn't have a genuine one anyway. I'm considering buying a 2.8i and converting it to Brooklands spec. The wheels are available as is the paint and trim. I have heard the full leather seats can let you slid...

Re: Edd China retires from Wheeler Dealers !
Interesting. Since moving to the US and being inundated with "Reality" shows, I've grown a new appreciation for Wheeler Dealers. What I like about it is they try and do car renovations on a budget, and its something us home grown mechanics can appreciate. While these shows like "Overh...

Re: Big insurance problems
Just a license to print money isn't it. I've had my Capri since 2004, never written off a car, never killed anyone or had a health-related problem with driving. On top of that, modified insurance... well.. that's good isn't it? It's good you drive a classic or a modified car, it means you're intere...

Re: Considering a 2.8i overseas
so that works in my favor Hi Iwan, Have you been in the good ol' USA very long? I've just noticed you're learning the lingo! Andrew. Just under a year, but sometimes I post using my wife's new iMac and it auto corrects everything to American! Don't worry, I'm not shouting yeehaw just yet :)

Re: Considering a 2.8i overseas

Re: Considering a 2.8i overseas
You can import a car to the US for a grand!! How.....?? I'll bring my Mk 3 over too.. Cheapest via container (as it would have to be loaded to train for last part of the journey) was 6k euros from Dublin to Toronto to Edmonton. I have the detailed pricing from shipping company and it added up fast....

Re: Considering a 2.8i overseas
Personally I think the Blue one with the side louvres and the last silver one are my faves :) My French isn't all that either but the others seem to be needing that work again in some places.... the 1.6GL is a nice little number but wouldn't want to see you take another one off the road to put a V8...

Re: Considering a 2.8i overseas
Hi Iwan, Although this car is only $5000,around £4100 by my calculation, to buy, I think it would be more cost effective to import a restored car that won't cost a fortune to repair. Have you considered importing a LHD car from continental Europe? Andrew. Agreed. That car needs too much work compar...

Considering a 2.8i overseas
Some of you might have seen this on the Capriworld facebook page, but a gentleman near me has one of the few MK3's in the USA and is considering selling it. It's a 1986 2.8i (Special?) He wants $5000 for it which to me is overpriced but at the same time it is a MK3 which is my favourite variant of C...

Re: A sensitive topic... (warning, huge post inside)
It seems like she wanted to send you the money to enjoy. So I agree and say put at least some of it towards the Capri and something you enjoy. depending how much it is, of course it would be prudent to stash some away so to speak for a rainy day but I usually have a 50% rule; 50% on something I enjo...

I recently just moved to the US so have read your thread with enthusiasm. Hoping to pic up a MK1 Capri myself next year!

Re: My old Capri's
You have a point, and normally I would do the same but having spent a lot of my life restoring cars (including an MGB GT V8 conversion for the last 8 years) I would like something for once that I can buy and enjoy right away, without spending years slaving away at it. Also, "Much cheaper" ...

Re: Crime and Punishment
I have to say, having moved to the US 6 months ago, that I'm not missing the UK apart from family of course. This place is far from perfect (look who just got elected!) but I certainly feel happier here in many aspects. Discounting the weather naturally being better, I enjoy not being in a traffic j...

Re: My old Capri's
Decent fastback V8 mustangs are at least $35,000 which as of today is about £28,000. You can ship a car to the East cost of the US for as little as £900 so if you say £1500 by the time you added any extra charges in. Only very low mileage Brooklands are fetching over £20k so yes, it's cheaper. Muscl...

Re: My old Capri's
As much as i love Capri's, if i lived in the states i'd want a Mustang. :P So would I, but have a fish around on eBay US or Craigslist and see what Fastback Mustangs are selling for. Hi, Judging by the timestamps on your photos, it looks like you are going to own a Capri in 19 years time..... :D Yo...

My old Capri's
I no longer have any of them, but thought users would like to see my old Capri's that I owned about 10-15 years ago. Terry will remember some of them as I used to be a regular here in the early noughties. My mum's 1.6L in 1989, this is what gave me the Capri bug: http://i508.photobucket.com/albums/s...
