Re: RS3100 / Motorsport

Thanks for the heads up, bought a copy at the weekend at the Race Retro Show for a £1. Article is on one of Ric Wood's works replicas, very nice, and value around £250k. https://s26.postimg.org/bcco9wa9l/tromans.png Says a genuine works Cologne is now about £1m, wish I'd had the money to buy the one...

Re: What’s your favourite car show ?

Wrecks to Riches wasn't bad, was on about 10 years ago but all episodes on YouTube as I watched them again recently, they restore muscle cars and upgrade the running gear etc. On YouTube you've got 'Project Binky', better than anything on TV, lots of great fabrication, 16 episodes so far. Beware, if...

Yes nice pic Andrew, saw it was one of yours on flickr :D

Just seemed to have got quite dusty in a short space of time, agree why no cover.

Ah yes Tibetan Gold, I also like, but not Champagne Gold looks a bit washed out.

Solar Gold 3.0S & Ghia

Having owned a Solar Gold 2.0S and an Oyster Gold 3.0S it was nice to see a Solar 3.0 Ghia appear locally which looked in pretty good unrestored shape. So whilst bored at work had a nosey on Google and found it was auctioned last year.... https://s26.postimg.org/v8ipwbmd5/2018-02-23.png But then saw...

Perhaps they should release a tech version of the series on DVD for the more discerning viewer :)

Look forward to seeing it at a show sometime, enjoy.

Re: Goblin Works Garage

Even more of a disappointment, if they had 4 hours of tech stuff but chose to fill the episode with shite about tattoos etc. and not even mention the drive line etc.
Did these 3 do all the work or is there another team that steps in to do the real graft when the camera's stop rolling ?

Could well be Mike, although I never saw it at a track before HT Racing owned it. That pic was either 1990 or 91 then in 92 it looked like this.....

Re: 2.8 a reg in Brookland colours

Some say the nicest 280s are actually the very rare white ones. Always confuses poor Joe Public who think they must be looking at a 2.8i Special with black seats and the wrong stickers. - the fact is they are completely right of course. Ah yes, I had one of the also very rare black ones :D ..... ht...

Re: Goblin Works Garage

Agree it should have been kept standard, and found another base that needed work. Back when I had an Ereg black 2.8i nobody would have cared less, but I did only pay £400 for it, times change. If they hadn't wasted time on tattoos we might have seen something of the engine install.. The drive line, ...

Re: Steering coupling rubber bush split ( can I still drive? )

Does seem like a backward step leaving the loop off, especially as like Paul says the lack of a compulsory MOT for 40+ year old cars is coming in soon. It's exactly the sort of thing owners are going to need to keep a check on, and sometimes the rubber can look ok but still have a lot of play. Easie...

Re: Steering coupling rubber bush split ( can I still drive? )

Glad you've sorted it, did you change the whole coupling or just the rubber. If just the rubber did you move the loop to it's correct position ? In the right place it gives enough steering to hopefully stop safely if the rubber broke completely by trapping the longer upper part of the coupling in th...

Re: 18” wheels on a mk3 Capri with xpack

Thanks JC for the comments, I do try and replicate the pic I have in my head. Doesn't always turn out that way :)
A good example being the bonnet, didn't like it plus I couldn't see apex on left handers, now gone.

Re: Steering coupling rubber bush split ( can I still drive? )

Looking at that pic. I would say you've had a lucky escape, certainly don't drive it again.

Also looks to me like it's been assembled wrong as well, which would have left you with no steering if the last bit of rubber broke. The metal loop is in the wrong place.

Re: £30K 3.0S

The 30k car is a very nice example and hard to fault, but if I was going to look at any of these big budget Capri's I would be going armed with an endescope and sticking it in every orifice I could find  . Endescopes that attach to your smartphone are cheap enough. A good place to start woul...

Re: 18” wheels on a mk3 Capri with xpack

The wheels are BMW as all the suspension is BMW so offsets etc. will be irrelevant. The 10x18"s have 265x660 Slicks, similar to a 265/35. At the rear the inner arch where it turns down to meet the outer arch was removed for clearance, I guess you would do that anyway on an X-pack. At the front ...

Re: 18” wheels on a mk3 Capri with xpack

Yes 18" wheels are possible, clearance issues will depend on wheel width, offset and how low you want to go. I run 18's although I still think they look a bit too big on a Capri, for me it's a case of needs must as anything smaller won't fit over the 360mm discs and 6-pots, plus there's an endl...

Re: Suspension / Brake options for Cstom Capri MkI project;

Afraid so Andrew, the ARB snapped where it goes in the TCA so the wheel assembly came back pushing the pedal box area right in (luckily I didn't have time to brake). Also had a big crease in the floor behind my seat, so quite lucky to be able to walk away. That was an S-reg 1.6L shell, I killed the ...
