Re: The Ford Pinto (Car) vs Capri's Petrol Tank
I can understand you thanking your lucky stars after that. I've got a Escort mk3 as well as a Capri and used to use the Escort to drive from Manchester to London a lot before the pandemic. since everyones back out and about I do think about the possibility of getting into an accident a lot more. I t...

The Ford Pinto (Car) vs Capri's Petrol Tank
I was listening to a Podcast the other day about the Ford Pinto (Car not engine) and how the rear end crashes resulted it bursting into flames. I forgot that it was the petrol tank hitting the rear axle that ruptured it and caused the explosion. It got me thinking how this was different than my Capr...

Re: Whining sort of noise....?
I had a similar problem when I bought my Capri. It was a really loud road noise like as if you were dragging a garden roller behind the car. The garage I took it too said it was the diff so I took it off and drove it over to Southern Axles in Watford. The replaced all the bearings in it as apparent...

Re: CB Radios in your Capri? (2022)
You should google "cellular phone" 😁 Wadda ya mean "still mounted "I dont know anyone who ever defaced their classic Capri with one.....thats the reason you cant find any photo's of CB radios in Capris . Capri owners ( well most of them anyway ) are to cool for that😁😆. Do you ha...

CB Radios in your Capri? (2022)
Getting tempted with cheap old CB radios on ebay and thought I'd see if anyone has them still mounted in their Capris in 2022? Mainly for the look although it might as well work If its in there. I like the idea of being able to squeeze one in below above the centre clock or under the glove box for r...

Re: Check those pipes…
I had this happen to my Escort mk3 with one pipe I replaced last year from Halfords last year. I only noticed as I decided to replace all the other old pipes (which still said Ford on them) and was shocked to see they were in better condition than the pipe thats less than a year old! I'm wondering i...

Re: capri ghia wheel tyre sizes
Just done exactly the same things! bought Ghia wheels but they have really old 205/60 and 185/60 on the front. Id put them on to see what it looks like but the valves seem to have stopped working. Does anyone have a picture of their wheels with 185/70 R13s ? I'm guessing this is standard for 1.6 / 2...

Capris at the ace (2011) Anyone got pics?
Just wondering if anyone has any pics from "Capris at the Ace 2011" ? Never really thought about it but my Capri has a sticker in the front window from the event and I just wondered if it was there or not. XAA60V - White Capri, probably with a smoothed off front. Screenshot 2021-11-14 at 1...

Re: Testing Top Mounts?
I'm guessing they must be? I dont know if these new struts are from a laser or something. At the moment I've got open ended nut tightened down pretty hard. the drivers side is fine but passenger still seemed a bit off until a few more turns on a breaker bar. I'll take it for a drive soon to check. I...

Testing Top Mounts?
Ive changed the front suspension on my Capri and now have a knocking noise that i'm trying to eliminate. My main question is: whats the best way to test Top Mounts? I took it for wheel alinement today and they think it could be top mounts (they checked the ball joints etc) but, i'm wondering if its ...

Re: Using Metal Weld On Diff Cover?
I'll have a look tomorrow. I picked up a few before trying the 10mm that looked close and they seemed too big, fingers crossed theres something in an old tool box.

Re: Using Metal Weld On Diff Cover?
Thanks guys. I'll try again with the bolts. I started going round them with an older, decent 10mm socket and it just slipped off so i dont want to end up with a situation. Sounds like the bodge job isnt the way though. Theres a fair lot of jobs to do on this car as ever so I'm trying to avoid paying...

Using Metal Weld On Diff Cover?
As the title says. I'm sure i've heard people doing this and I was just about to change my Diff cover when I realised how well sealed on it is (was reconditioned by Southern Axles) and im struggling to get the bolts to budge. Its leaking through what I guess are pin holes higher up. Seems a shame to...

Re: 3.0 Brake Disc advice.
My top mounts at the moment are the rubber roller bearing burton type and I’m guessing the old stuff (not seen them yet) are the old rubber type if it’s all standard. I think it was taken off a car back in the day. I’ll try identify the springs from my paperwork when I get home tomorrow.

Re: 3.0 Brake Disc (just been offered 2.0 struts)
Hey folks i've been offered some 2.0 complete struts to swap out my 3.0 struts that are badly in need of new discs. What I have been offered is 2.0GL Sachs struts ready to go straight on with original standard springs/top mounts. What I have now is 3.0 struts with Burton top mounts (which I remember...
