Re: cutting out problem (2.0 - 32/36 weber)

Yeah i'm completely ok with people thinking I'm a novice and I'm still learn. I've done a lot on this car but I think suspension/rear axle and interior isnt as hard as figuring out these kind of problems. I'm still learning and see these sites as a place to learn form others. I wouldnt have even att...

Re: cutting out problem (2.0 - 32/36 weber)

Sorry if it's in the last couple of pages somewhere but what idle speed is the car set at. The video at the end seems to show about 600 which is pretty low I'm not sure at the moment. I took it for a drive a couple of weeks ago and it was doing the cutting out thing. When I reached a Car park I adj...

Re: cutting out problem (2.0 - 32/36 weber)

Cheers for the advice. My Escort mk3 is still on points so i'm used to that. I have had a condenser fail on a Triumph Spitfire once and was back on the road quickly enough. More recently hired a 1972 VW Camper that was on points, that failed and the person I rented it off hadn't provided spares... l...

Re: cutting out problem (2.0 - 32/36 weber)

Cheers guys , I had a quick look at the rotor arm today and it didnt seem to have any side to side play. You can twist it a bit but it springs back (guess thats normal?) . I'll check the vacuum tomorrow and if all is well have a look at the springs if I can.

Re: cutting out problem (2.0 - 32/36 weber)

Just one you can do quickly: have you checked the vacuum advance module as if that`s deteriorated it can cause random air leaks and cause the ignition timing to `wander`? Take the pipe off the base of carb and suck it, if any air comes through it`s leaking. To check wear in distributor just try pus...

Re: cutting out problem (2.0 - 32/36 weber)

The idle circuit is not in use when driving the car with higher revs obviously. Are you sure about that,Im pretty sure it does contribute to the overall mixture , and there is also an idle circuit in the secondary venturi ,you can see the idle jets on both sides of the carb in the diagram I posted ...

Re: cutting out problem (2.0 - 32/36 weber)

If it `leans out` when you press the brakes it could be a perforated diaphragm in the servo which opens up when flexed causing an air leak? If you stop the engine do you still get the 1st 3 pedals with servo assistance from the residual vacuum in the servo/ any whooshing, whistling noises when you ...

Re: cutting out problem (2.0 - 32/36 weber)

Have you investigated the possibility of a fuel blockage? For example if there is crud wandering in the carb channels, it could randomly find a jet and block it, car would stumble and/or cutout then. With carb in place you can remove the idle jet and mixture screw and blow compressed air both ways ...

Re: cutting out problem (2.0 - 32/36 weber)

Ok heres a video on the timing... Sometimes you get in it and once its started it drives ok, sometimes it cuts out after being on choke but when it decided to act up like it did today the revs go from around 1000/800 - 0 when you press the brakes ( this will make it snuff/cut out) and now i've upgra...

Re: Capri Indicator bulb holder replacement

Heres a picture of the front of the Car, let your creativity run wild Mc Tool. I've put 20 watt bulbs in it now for ease. That looks sweet as, love the quarter bumpers! Are they from a Mk2 escort per chance? They are. It has a chrome mk1 Capri bumper on the back which I really like but im...

What sort of escort bumper....s...

Re: cutting out problem (2.0 - 32/36 weber)

Cheers all I did find the float settings in the end and Set it to 41mm etc so all good. it looked ok before hand really but i made double sure. I've replaced the Dizzy Cap and Rotor arm. Took it for a spin yesterday and after getting a few streets away it was idling low but but not quite cutting out...

Re: cutting out problem (2.0 - 32/36 weber)

Make sure when setting float level you use the spec for a brass float as its different to the plastic spec ... brass float being heavier than the plastic one . :) Just got the top of the carb off. Not seeing an awful lot for brass specs 41mm when “hanging” which seem to be the float dangling vertic...

Re: cutting out problem (2.0 - 32/36 weber)

If your going to check the float level make sure the float isn't full of fuel , brass ones you can hear it in there ,black plastic ones soak it up like a sponge and just feel heavier than a lump of foam should (not very scientific I know but thats how I twigged ) usually causes bad flooding at idle...

Re: cutting out problem (2.0 - 32/36 weber)

I may have missed it, but whereabouts are you? Surely, with the plethora of experience on this forum, you'd be better asking for help on here first. Would only cost a few beers, plus parts and the chances are most garages these days would have to google 'carburettor' anyway! Haha I think your right...

Re: cutting out problem (2.0 - 32/36 weber)

The bombardment is well intentioned peeps trying to help. Every one has a plausible theory but as you see it can become a bit overwelming . Dude , no offence but I think you have reached the point where seeking professional help makes good sense. Im sure you have more than one issue and unless your...

Re: cutting out problem (2.0 - 32/36 weber)

How come my return pipe doesnt come out of the same side as the fuel In pipe?? That does seem strange, hopefully someone will know, the return is usually on the opposite side of the inlet. As for the rest of it, there's just too much bombardment of info and stuff to be honest, there is too much goi...

Re: cutting out problem (2.0 - 32/36 weber)

Also a couple of pics of my Carb. How come my return pipe doesnt come out of the same side as the fuel In pipe?? It comes out of the top via that brass pipe. I'm sure I've seen others like this, just wonder if It would work a lot better. And also is the advance tube going in the right hole here? I n...

Re: cutting out problem (2.0 - 32/36 weber)

Picked up a new Dizzy Cap, Rotor arm (need to go back though as this one was rusty ) Oil, Filter. Havent done the oil change as I'm strugglign with the rocker cover leaking but, think i've cracked it. There is an odd noise coming from the engine though and I have filmed it. Not sure if its related. ...
